Gang Wan, President Tongji University (China) welcomes participants of the Holcim Forum 2007 to Tongji University, Shanghai
Gang Wan is President of Tongji University and Director of the Center for New-Fuel Auto Engineering at Tongji University, Shanghai.
He is also the Chief Scientist for the Fuel Cell Auto Project for China’s High-Tech Research and Development Program (863 Plan).
Gang Wan obtained his M.S. from Tongji University in 1981 and received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Clausthal University of Technology, Germany in 1990.
He joined Audi AG in Germany in 1991 where he led multiple technology innovation projects and made a significant contribution to the successful production of the Audi A4.
In 2000, Gang Wan submitted a clean-energy auto proposal to China’s State Council for the leapfrog development of China’s automobile industry.
In 2004, a cooperative memorandum was signed between Tongji University, Volkswagen and German engineering company IAV GmbH to integrate fuel cell, battery and control systems for the development of a hydrogen-fuelled vehicle for China based on Volkswagen’s Touran electric car.
Gang Wan is a member of the Board of Councilors for the China-US Center for Sustainable Development, and is also a member of the Supervisory Board for ThyssenKrupp AG.
