Daniel K Irurah is Senior Lecturer in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His interests are design, construction and sustainable architecture. He is Director of Syn-consult Africa (Pty) Ltd, a private consultancy on sustainability and the built environment. He is also a member of the Board of Directory of the Green House Project, an NGO on sustainable building.
Daniel K Irurah studied architecture at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and holds two Master's degrees in architecture and urban planning from the University of Oregon, USA. He received his PhD (1997) on the analysis of embodied energy in building construction materials and processes in South Africa from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
He was involved in the "Sustainable Settlements", the sustainable housing strategy for Johannesburg; cost benefit analysis of low-cost housing located in urban areas of South Africa; and energy efficient housing for South Africa.
Daniel K Irurah is actively involved in the boards of organizations advocating sustainable development. He was a member of the WITS WSSD Task Group where he coordinated the activities of the University of the Witwatersrand at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Earth Summit) held in Johannesburg in 2002.
