Markus Akermann is Chairman of the Management Board of the Holcim Foundation, and CEO of Holcim Ltd.

He studied business economics at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland and economic and social sciences at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

Markus Akermann began his professional career in 1975 with the former Swiss Banking Corporation.

He joined Holcim in 1978, where he has held a number of positions in Latin America and international cement trading. He has been a member of the Holcim Executive Committee since 1993, and CEO since 2002.
