Awards competition – how do I enter the competition?

Entries in the current Awards competition (2008/09) closed on February 29, 2008.

Since the competition is based on a three-year cycle. The next opportunity to enter the competition is scheduled for mid-2010.

Awards competition – what are the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction?

The Holcim Awards is an international competition for projects that embody approaches to meet the present-day needs for housing and infrastructure without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs in times to come.

Awards competition – when will results of the Holcim Awards be announced?

Winners will be informed personally as soon as the jury decisions are verified and the jury report signed by all jury members, i.e. in July/August 2008. Main authors of all winning projects will be invited to attend the respective Awards ceremony but not informed in detail about the ranking of their project prior to the event.

All participants will be informed by email of the outcome of the competition on the day of the respective Awards ceremony. The results of the Holcim Awards competition are announced per region on:

- Europe, September 25/26, 2008
- North America, October 16/17, 2008
- Latin America, October 23/24, 2008
- Africa Middle East, November 13/14, 2008
- Asia Pacific, November 27/28, 2008

Awards competition – when does the next Holcim Awards competition open?

The Holcim Awards program operates on a 3-year cycle. The next Holcim Awards competition (3rd) will open for entries in 2010 leading the regional Awards in 2011 and global Awards in 2012.

Awards competition – can I obtain a certificate of participation?

The Holcim Foundation will issue certificates of participation to main authors of all competition entries whose project is evaluated by a regional jury (i.e. only for complete submissions meeting formal requirements of the competition).

You may use your completed entry form PDF (link below) as documentary evidence of participation in the competition in any case.

The Holcim Foundation is supported by, but independent of the commercial interests of Holcim Ltd, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement and aggregates (crushed stone, sand and gravel) as well as further activities such as ready-mix concrete and asphalt including services. The Group holds majority and minority interests in more than 70 countries on all continents, and employs some 90,000 people.

Employment – how do I apply for a position at the Holcim Foundation?

A small staff of professionals manages the secretariat functions of the Holcim Foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland. Currently there are no vacancies or internships available. Any open positions will be advertised in the appropriate media including the Holcim Foundation's website.

Funding – fellowships and grants

The Holcim Foundation does not provide any scholarships or fellowships.

The Holcim Grants initiative provides seed funding for buildings and grants for PhD research projects to accelerate progress and promote sustainable construction.

There are no funds available to sponsor conferences, seminars, etc.

News – how can I stay informed of the latest news about the Holcim Foundation, its Awards competition and Forum?

Sustainable construction – I have a brilliant idea/project in sustainable construction which needs financial support – what should I do?

While the Holcim Foundation aims to select and support initiatives that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural quality and enhanced quality of life beyond technical solutions, funds are limited.

Since entries in the current Holcim Awards competition have now closed, you may wish to contact the local Holcim Group company in your country to determine whether your idea/project may be eligible for a local initiative.

The Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction is dependent upon competent support, especially in the technical field.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) operates as the global Technical Competence Center (TCC) of the Holcim Foundation and is supported by additional partner universities (see link below).

The Holcim Foundation aims to unite diverse global expertise and increase awareness of the critical role of the built environment in achieving sustainability.

A calendar of sustainable construction events acts as a networking tool listing events related to sustainable construction hosted by associations, universities, NGOs, IGOs and corporations worldwide.
